Katie Lee
Taylor
Sep 20, 1931 — Apr 17, 2016
Katie Lee Taylor, 84, passed away on April 17, 2016. She was born September 20, 1931 in Sicily Island, Louisiana to King David Swazer, Sr. and Mildred Brown (also known as Candy Brown). She was preceded in death by Monroe Turner; sister, Georgia Lee Alexander; brother, King David Swazer, Jr.; daughter, Margaret Taylor and loving grandson, Melvin E. Taylor. Katie was educated in and also graduated from the public schools of Sicily, Louisiana. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at St. Peters Church of Christ in Wisner, Louisiana. Katie lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, where her five children were born. She later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she resided for over fifty years. Katie was employed at Bendix-Allied Signal until her retirement. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in the First Aid Ministry. Katie loved cooking, fishing, and gardening. She was family oriented and willing to lend a hand to many new and old friends, acquaintances and strangers. Katie not only opened her heart but also her home to many for cooking, ministry, or just to be a listening ear to someone in need. She was a mighty woman of God whose words and actions lined up. You didn't have to ask if she was a Christian, it showed on her like sunshine. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Lewis Taylor; three daughters, Marilyn Taylor, Angela Taylor and Melvina Taylor all of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Hardy Swazer (Barbara) and Walter Swazer (Lil) both of Denver, CO; four sisters, Luetta Bourn (late Ezra), Lula Pearl Gilbert (late Dan) both of Monroe, LA, Olivia Jackson (H.P.) of Rialto, CA and Laura Howard (Leroy) of Denver, CO; four god-daughters, Rev. Lisa Montgomery, Shaunda Fowler, Stephanie Jones and Joi Perkins; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 12:30 p.m. at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
