Obituary

Kedar Iman Muhammad, born William Eugene Brown, entered this world on June 15, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas, to the union of Beatrice Green (McGhee) and James Brown, Sr.

Kedar was educated in the Kansas City school system and graduated from Central High School. He later became a licensed and certified automotive technician, building a respected career doing what he loved. Known for his technical knowledge and skill, Kedar worked for the City of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as several automotive repair shops. He was also an entrepreneur who owned and operated an automotive repair business and a mobile car repair service. For many years he faithfully served customers and friends through his craft until declining health no longer permitted him to continue working on cars.

In 1972, Kedar married Safiyyah Muhammad (Johnnie Mae Hooker). From this union came the pride and joy of his life, his two daughters, Usamah and Karima. Kedar was a devout Muslim earlier in life and later converted to Christianity, developing a deep love for the Lord and remaining committed to his faith and family.

Kedar was a man who believed in responsibility and honor. He stepped forward to care for members of his family when they needed him most, faithfully supporting his mother, Beatrice Green, his stepfather, Alvin Green, and his first cousin, Willie Mae, until their passing. His quiet strength and commitment to family reflected the character of a man who understood what it meant to be a protector and provider.

Those who knew Kedar remember him as a man of few words but strong presence. He carried a warm yet demanding demeanor and took pride in his role as the patriarch of his family. He deeply loved his wife Mary White-Muhammad, daughters, and grandchildren, and he found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, sharing wisdom and teaching them important life lessons.

In his younger years, Kedar enjoyed roller skating and painting, expressing a creative spirit that would live on through his children and grandchildren, many of whom share his love for creativity and the arts.

On Sunday, March 8, 2026, Kedar Iman Muhammad peacefully departed this life to receive his heavenly reward.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Brown, Sr.; his mother, Beatrice Green; his stepfather Alvin Green, his brother, Raymond Young; and his sister, Gloria Thomas.

Kedar leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary Muhammad; his two daughters, Dr. Usamah Muhammad-Rodgers and Karima Muhammad; four grandchildren, Ayesha Rodgers, Armon Rodgers, Mylan Collins, and Khalil Sheldon; siblings James Brown II (Anita), Patricia Brown, and Deborah Young; former wives Safiyyah Muhammad and Janice Muhammad, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.

Kedar's legacy of faith, strength, craftsmanship, and devotion to family will live on in the generations he helped shape.
