Obituary

Kenneth Merwyn Harris, 66, KCMO, passed away on March 5, 2017 at the home. He was born September 30, 1950 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was one of three sons born to Dorothy W. (Harris) Lewis and the late Ralph Harris, Sr. Shortly after Dorothy Lewis moved to Kansas City, Missouri, she met and married Jesse L. Lewis, Jr. who later adopted Kenneth as his son. Kenneth grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Paseo High School. He later attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. Kenneth was first employed by the Kansas City Star for nearly two decades. He later moved to Topeka, Kansas and worked for the Kansas Gas Service for seventeen years. In his leisure time, Kenneth loved to go fishing, take road trips and was also an avid sports watcher. He leaves behind to cherish his memory: one son, David L.K. Harris; granddaughter, Victoria Harris; his parents, Jesse L. Lewis, Jr. and Dorothy W. Lewis of Kansas City; three brothers, Ralph Harris (N. Jean Harris) of St. Joseph, MO, Donald Harris and Jesse Lewis III (Stephanie Brennan); two sisters, Marilyn Lewis Thompson (Lloyd Cliff Thompson) and Angela D. Lewis Thompson (Jose Thompson); one uncle, Julius Lewis (Linnie Lewis) Brokenbow, OK; one aunt, Alma Rollie; nephews, James Boone, Jamil Boone, Demitrius Boone all of St. Joseph MO, Evan Lewis Thompson, Vincent Lewis and Jonathan Brennan all of Kansas City and Frederick Harris of the Philippines; nieces, Rachael Boone, Marissanne Lewis-Thompson, Jessica Lewis, Donna Harris of the Philippines, LaNita Raney, Laura Thompson and Elizabeth Boone; and numerous other family and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, March 13, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
