Obituary

Kenneth (Kenny) Eugene Langum was born on February 8, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri; the second of five children born to Harry & Bereatha Langum. He is preceded in death by his father Harry.

Kenny attend public schools in the Kansas City Missouri School District, graduating from Paseo High School in 1972. He had been a lifelong Christian who accepted Christ as a young adult; previously fellowshipping at St. Stephen Baptist Church & Sheffield Family Life Center. He was currently a member of GracePointe Community Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Kenny was united in Holy Matrimony to Rose Riley on August 22, 1987.

Kenny started his working career at the Hilton Plaza Inn/Alameda Plaza. He worked briefly at Allis-Chalmers where his father was also employed and PanHandle Eastern Pipeline Co. The majority of his career was at Black & Veatch Engineering firm where he was a dedicated, hardworking employee starting his career there in 1973, until his death. Additionally, he worked with the Kansas City Chiefs since 1978, until his death. He had the honor of traveling with his BELOVED Chiefs this year to the Super Bowl and helped celebrate their championship win.

In the 1980's, Kenny coached a competitive boys basketball team for St. Stephen's Baptist Church. Later, coaching his son through several of his different youth sports.

Kenny loved to be surrounded by his family & friends. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed so many lifelong friendships, which usually meant there was hardly ever a time he went anywhere and didn't run into a friend. Kenny had a cheerful spirit and a big heart. He would always greet you with a huge smile and often would say something witty. He loved God and loved life.

Kenny's sudden and unexpected death on Tuesday, June 30th seemed to actually make time stand still for a moment as we tried to digest our loss. It was so unbelievably shocking to all who knew and loved him. To say he will be missed is an understatement. It is going to take us all a while to get back in step without him.

Kenny leaves to cherish to his memory, his wife Rose; son Kendal Langum; daughter Keva Hayslett; mother Bereatha Langum; brothers, Darwin (Rene) Langum, Steve (Pat) Langum; sisters Connie (Perry) Williams, Gina (Mike) Agbodo; grandchildren Amira & Kyndal Langum; Lamar Hayslett, Corey Everett, JR, Kelyn Jordan; mother-in-law Shirley Riley; brother-in-laws Robert (Debbie) Hauer, Calvin (Dionne) Riley; sister-in-laws Carletta Riley-Garlington, Darlene (Ricky) Farr; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins; and MANY, MANY friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 11:00 am at Sheffield Family Life Center. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation Friday, July 10, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors and Saturday, July 11, 9:00am-10:45am at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
