Kenneth Lee Norton, 80, passed away on August 16, 2019 at The Villages of Jackson Creek. He was born February 24, 1939 to the union of Melvin Norton and Mahalia Hunter in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John; and five sisters, Willa, Jacquelyn, Wanda, Marva and Beverly. After the death of his biological mother, Kenneth was raised by Jeannette Evans.
Kenneth was a lifelong Kansas City resident and was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1958. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served two years, 1958 thru 1960. Following his active duty term he transferred to the Navy Reserves.
Kenneth was employed at Kansas City Power & Light Company for thirty years as a lineman, retiring on October 31, 2000.
Kenneth was a loving family man who enjoyed spending quality time with his family. As the family jokester, he also made sure that everybody stayed in touch with each other. Kenneth was always well dressed and starched whenever he stepped out. He loved to fish and listen to music.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Melva Calbert; three nephews, Allen Roberson, Clifton Calbert and Eric Calbert all of Kansas City, MO; four nieces, Carmen D. Woods of Grandview, MO, Shelly Matthews of Ft. Worth, TX, LaTonya Kemp of Atlanta, GA and Denise Kemp of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, Roneisha Rush, Robert Blackwell and Karia Tucker all of Kansas City, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Monday, August 26, 11:00 a.m. at Shalom Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
