Obituary

Kevin Dent, 55, was born August 9, 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was one of two children from the union of the late Clarence and Hazel R. Dent. Kevin attended L.B. Landry High School and immediately after graduating 1979, he joined the United States Army. He was a telecommunications specialist, Kevin's favorite song while he was in the military was 'We've Come This Far By Faith', and this was his staple song throughout his walk with Christ. He served the country from August 1979 to January 1985, touring various places such as Augusta, Georgia, Korea and Hawaii. Kevin was a lifelong native of New Orleans until 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. He then moved to Grandview, Missouri where he relocated with family. Kevin worked at World's of Fun until his health would no longer permit. He managed many businesses over the course of his work career. Kevin gave his life to God at the age of five and was baptized by Rev. L. Kieffier at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in New Orleans. He was an active member of Bread of Life East Church in Kansas City, Missouri where he served in the choir, as a door greeter and in Men in Motion'. In New Orleans, he was a member of the Upper Room Bible Church under the leadership of Rev. Herbert Rowe, from 2002-2005. He served on the usher board and in the choir. His favorite songs were 'Tomorrow', 'Heavenly Choir' and of course, 'We've Come This Far By Faith'. Kevin was ushered into glory on June 20, 2016 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. with ha song sang by his overseer Pastor Cobbins, 'Jesus is the Center of My Joy'. He has gone home to be with God and his mother, Hazel R. Dent; dad, Clarence Dent; grandmother, Hazel Harrison; son, Quindell Dent; and other family members and friends. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Desiree Dent; four children, Kendell Dent, Arsenio Wright, Kalani Dent and Aliyah Dent; grandson, Terell Smith; sister by the union of Hazel and Clarence, Sylvon Dent; three sisters by his father, Paula Euell, Carla Hammond and Kimberly Franklin; one devoted brother-in-law, Chester Thompson; one sister-in-law, Mary Thompson; one devoted nephew, REginald M. White II; two devoted nieces, Regderell S. White and Jasmine Thompson; one great niece, Mackenzie Smith; God-mother, Elizidia Randolph; two uncles, Brady McKinnies and Charles Washington; two aunts, Urslanda McKinnies and Ophelia Bowens; two devoted cousins, Leawood Harrison and Cecelia Ervin; devoted friends, Kevin Bell, Willie Brown, Charles Harness and Patrice Phillips; and a host of other aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and L.BL. classmates. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 28, 11:00 a.m. at Bread of Life Church East. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
