Obituary

Kevin Jerome Smalls, 59, entered into this world on July 6, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the eldest son of Albert J. and Alice L. (Williams) Smalls. He attended Yeager Elementary School and Paseo High School and received his G.E.D. along with a Certificate in Carpentry from Job Corps. Kevin worked for the Hyatt Regency Hotel at Crown Center for over twelve years until he became ill in the early 1980's. As a young man, Kevin played street basketball and baseball, enjoyed driving around the city and taking long walks. Being the eldest brother, Kevin would always look out for his brothers and sisters by taking them out to eat, buying them treats and doing all the great things a big brother does for their siblings. Kevin attended Brookside Adult Day Center which was very influential in his life. It was a place where Kevin mastered all competitive games, for example, dominoes, chess, bingo and other exciting activities. Kevin had a glorious smile, loving spirit and a giving heart; a true angel putting others before himself. His favorite football team was the Kansas City Chiefs and if the Chief's lost, he would not eat, he would just go to bed. He enjoyed playing cards and dominoes, and snapping his fingers while rocking his body to the great sounds of Old School music. Kevin also loved beautiful women. During thirty plus years of living with his sister, Sherese and her husband Myron, he was also surrounded by other family members who loved and cared for him which include Shontray, Tiffany, Bud, Al Al, D'Markus, Gerald Gerald and LaPasha. Kevin departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert J. and Alice L. Smalls, and his stepmother Alfreda Lacey Smalls-Frazier. He leaves to cherish his memory: three brothers, Kenton M. Smalls, Terrence L. Smalls and Lance E. Smalls; four sisters, Sherel N. Smalls, Sherese D. Sanders (Myron), LaTanya L. Howard (Bobby) and Jeanna D. Smalls; special sister-in-law, Bernadette Rayford-Smalls and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great and great great nephews and nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 8, 11:00 a.m. at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
