Laverne
Adams
Mar 30, 1935 — Jun 30, 2017
LaVerne Adams, 82, was born March 30, 1935 in Round Lake, Mississippi to the union of Alonzo and Emma Buggs. Her parents, nine brothers, four sisters and three sons preceded her in death. LaVerne was educated in Greenville, Mississippi and attended Sacred Heart School. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she made her home over fifty years. She was employed by the Kansas City Area Transportation beginning April 17, 1978 as bus driver and had the distinction of being the first black lady bus driver to retire on March 31, 1997. She received a proclamation from the City of Kansas City, Missouri for her years of service at the Metro. Somehow in all her years of service as a bus driver she successfully avoided every winter season. Her many accomplishments also included working as a lab tech at Baptist Medical Center. LaVerne was a member of the Concord Fortress of Hope Church under the leadership of Rev. Ronald R. Lindsay and served with the Faithful Mothers of Wisdom. LaVerne was the Queen of the kitchen and loved to pick greens. She also enjoyed shopping and keeping up with the latest fashions. She was proudly 90% African and 10% French. LaVerne was united in marriage to Desota Adams. She was everybody's Big Mama and was a caregiver to many. She genuinely loved people and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. LaVerne departed this life on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 7:25 p.m., surrounded by her loving family at the home. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Desota Adams of the home; one daughter, Carol J. Davis of Kansas City, MO; additional sons, Charles R. Adams of Tucson, AZ, Todd E. Adams of Topeka, KS and Eric L. Adams of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Cloritha Conners (James) of Jackson, TN and Barbara Thompson of Detroit, MI; one sister, Leola Overton (Remus) of Clarksdale, MS; four grandchildren, Tamera Bankston, Terah Fox (Derrick), Kandra Davis (Tracey) and Kelly Robinson; thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, July 14, 10:30 a.m. at Concord Fortress of Hope. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
