Obituary

Lavon Annetta Taylor, 54, KCMO, passed away on April 21, 2016. Her life's journey began on November 8, 1961. She was born to Maxine Taylor and Charles Crofton in Kansas City, Missouri, the sixth of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce Taylor; great aunt, Goldie Sampson; aunts, Goldie 'Tula' Wright (Uncle Buck) and Laverne Charles, uncle, Warren Williams and niece, Talonda Wilson; Lavon accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lee Freeman. She was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from Paseo High School in 1981. She held various jobs throughout her life including at Brown's Chicken, Little Sister's of the Poor, Holmesdale Nursing Home and Butterball which was her favorite. Lavon was the life of the party. She was always willing to help and to be in her presence meant that you were going to be in a good mood. Whether she was lending every hand or handing out orders,she was always the boss. Her favorite saying was and will always be, 'Baby I've been put out of better places, this ain't Carnegie Hall. I can walk around heaven all day!' She leaves to cherish her memory: six beautiful blessed children: Shila Taylor (Darnell Shelton), Javon 'Shay' Taylor (William Brown, Sr.), Brandy Grimes, Clarence 'Man Man' James, Reba 'Diggie' Grimes and Dominic 'Stinky' Grimes; seven grandchildren who affectionately called her 'Grandma', Kareem Taylor-Johnson, Javionna Taylor-Reed, Shianne Taylor, Jaliyah Smith, Jada Bell, Antonio Anderson, Jr. and William Brown, Jr.; two brothers, Walter Taylor and Joseph Crofton; six sisters, Mary Wilson, Faye McBride, Rosalind Dotson (Larry), Charlesetta Taylor, Angel Crofton and Carol Ann Crofton; uncle, 'Buss' Mack and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, April 29, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Private disposition. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
