Obituary

Lawana J. (Clayton) Gibson, 59, passed away on October 22, 2018. She was born on October 25, 1958 to the union of Lawrence Clayton and Doris (Green) Clayton in Kansas City, Kansas. Her father, one brother, Billy W. Clayton and a step-daughter, Ralonda D. Gibson all preceded her in death. Lawana was a lifelong area resident and was educated in the Kansas City Missouri public schools. She was a graduate of Manual High School Class of 1976. While in high school she was a member of the Choir, Junior Varsity and Varsity Cheerleader and the Track Team. She received many honors in school. She was a member of the Jamison Memorial C.M.E. Church and served in various organizations in the church. Lawana was employed at the Kansas City Public Library over twenty years, working in various positions there until her health began to fail. She was united in marriage to Harrison Gibson, who also preceded her in death. Lawana was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and grandmother who even in illness never complained. She was always encouraging her children to be the best that they could be. She will be sorely missed by all her family and former classmates and co-workers. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Sylvester A. Gibson (Tamara); three daughters, Andrea Clayton-Jones (Dylan), Adrianne Clayton and Harris Gibson; one step-daughter, Natasha El-Scari, all of Kansas City, MO; mother, Doris J. Clayton, Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Larry Clayton, Oklahoma City, OK and Lance Clayton (Bridgette), Grandview, MO; three sisters, Rhonda Mitchell and Ramona Clayton, Kansas City, MO and Devola Shepard (Carl), Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Anthony, Nazr El-Scari, Josiah Jones, Dorian Clayton, Raven Stewart, Naeema El-Scari, Jeremiah Jones, Whitney Edwards, Wendell Edwards, Synia Gibson, Jo'el Jones, Tobias Gibson and Jericho Jones; mother-in-love, Juanita Gibson; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral services Thursday, November 1, 12:00 p.m. at Linwood United Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
