Obituary

Lee Ather Black, 77 died on Friday December 4th, 2020 in Kansas City Missouri. She was born on May 17,1943 to Melvin Clarence Canady and Verley Canady in Hattisville, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by both parents, step-father, Bruce Clinkscale, and six sisters; Viola Bolden, Marlene Canady, Sandra Martin, Francine McGee, Stephanie Mosby and Flossie Briggs. Lee Ather attended Center Elementary School in Cleveland, Arkansas and the Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas. She graduated in 1962 and moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she made her home for 58 years. She was United in marriage to Robert Black on June 25th, 1965 and to this union two children were born. She was employed at Western Electric/AT&T in Missouri and retired after 30 years. Lee Ather joined New Prospect in Cleveland, Arkansas at an early age. She then United with Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Kansas City, Missouri in the early 1960's where she sang in the choir, was a class leader, Sunday School Secretary, member of caring and sharing, couples ministry, senior adults and retiree group she was also on the Deaconess Board. She enjoyed traveling, and also had a green thumb with plants. She enjoyed spending time with her family/friends with whom she was known for giving the Best Hugs. She leaves to cherish her memory, her spouse, Robert Black of 55 years, her two children Rickey Black (Nina) and Latasha Black, Three Grandchildren; Rickey Black Jr, Jazmine Jackson (Phillip), and Naiyah Black, Eight Great Grandchildren; Phillip Jackson II, Phenix Jackson, Zi'Lynn Black, Stormie Black, RaMaya Black, Miracle Black, Rickey Black III, and Ryder Black, Three Sisters; Erma McDaniel, Melverine Williams, Delores Ross, Six Brothers; Burnell Canady (Ruby) Conway Arkansas, Malvin Canady aka MC, Maverick Canady, Elvin Canady (Wanda) Hot Springs Arkansas, Clarence White, and Datheon Jackson aka Da Da and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 2 pm, at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 1pm-2pm. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences maybe shared on our website. Funeral services will be LIVESTREAMED: MSTCSUNSET.com
