Lester
Ransburg Sr.
Oct 24, 1939 — Jan 15, 2023
Lester Ransburg Sr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi on October 24, 1939, to James Ransburg Sr. and Mattie Finch. His parents, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Lester moved to Kansas City in 1957, where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Trigg. This union, which lasted 64 years, brought forth three beloved children who loved, respected, and admired him.
Lester accepted Christ early into adulthood, and in 1979, joined St. Stephen Baptist Church under Reverend Williams. He was ordained a deacon in 1980 and served as a New Members Teacher and Secretary of the Berean Bible Class and Deacon Board. Lester used his gift of service by assisting in nursing facilities and halfway houses, where he "never met a stranger." He
worked in construction and later retired from the Kansas City Missouri School District.
Lester loved playing golf. After enduring extreme prejudices as a caddy, he was determined to master the game. He earned his status as a pro and played tournaments locally and abroad. He could hit a straight shot to the mark with little to no effort, regardless of the distance. The talented Lester Ransburg Sr. won numerous awards, recognitions, and positions, including.
serving as golf ranger at Swope Park and competing in the annual "Gates Classic Tournaments." Although ferociously competitive, he remained humble throughout, never placing himself higher than the game. For his true loves were in his household, and that is where he planted his greatest efforts.
Lester leaves his best memories to his wife, Barbara Ransburg of the home; two daughters, Margaret Randle and Sheila Parker (KCMO); two sons, Lester Ransburg Jr. and Benjamin Ransburg (KCMO); one brother, Robert Ransburg (Lees Summit, MO); three sisters, Lucinda Hill (Jackson, MS), Ida Mae Lewis (Detroit, MI); and Darlene White (KCMO); ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces and nephews. Also, two special friends, Asia Fennel and Larry "LP" Stark.
