Obituary

Born Constance Bernice Bailey to Catherine Bailey and Samuel Houston Randolph, on August 3, 1935, Kansas City, MO, she was adopted as Lola Mae Sexton she was raised by Emma Sexton McCleldon, paternal grandmother and her adoptive father, Willie Sexton after the passing of her adoptive mother Mamie Nelson Sexton.

Her grandmother, Emma Sexton, who being a Christian herself, insisted on her attending a church where she could attend when Mrs. Sexton could not go with her. Lola walked the half block distance every Sunday to Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, (KCKS). There she accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized at the age of 12. Served on Junior Usher Board, Junior Choir, and as Sunday School Clerk. Her service to the Lord continued all the days of her life.

A lifelong resident of Kansas City, KS, she received her education at Grant Elementary School, Northeast Jr High School (where she met and befriended her lifelong friend Helen Mills Myers), and Sumner High School.

She was privileged to worship, and meet the needs of others at Pleasant Green Bapt KCKS (1940 to 1953 - Rev. Robert Earl Penn, Sr.), Mt. Sinai Baptist KCKS (1968 to 1975 - Rev. Isaac Gatsby Gaines), Mt. Carmel Bapt Church, Rosedale, KS (1975 to 1977- Rev. Otis Lloyd), Community Baptist Church KCKS – Rev. Niles Seawood), New Beginnings Bapt Church KCKS (Rev. E. Rodney Perry), New Horizons Bapt Church KCKS (Rev. T. L. Hood), Oak Ridge Bapt Church KCKS (2015 to present - Pastor Rickey Turner).

She is preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents and two sons, Michael Tolliver and Adam Hogan, Jr. Still living, Mary Dawson Ellis, daughter of Willie Sexton. She will to be lovingly remembered by her children, Anthony Heard, Ella Heard Cole (Curtis) Loretta Heard, Derrick Sexton, LaFonda Frazier Taylor (John), Michele Tolliver Taylor, Lora Hogan Matthews (Kenneth), Daniel Hogan and Anthony Griffin whom she loved as a son; grandchildren, LaTashu Sims (Gerald), Crystal Heard, Phillip Cole, Patrick Tolliver, Corie Heard, Candice Cole Brooks (Andre), Aaron Hogan (Monique), Ashely Taylor, Arica Taylor, and Kenneth Matthews, Jr.; nineteen great grandchildren as well as her lifelong friend sister, Helen Mills, and her pal and confidant, Marvelline Jackson. She has taken off her silver shoes to walk on streets of gold!

Funeral services Wednesday, July 24, 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, KCKS. Interment Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on website.
