Lonnie Charles Hester Sr. passionately known as "Yellow Car" and "Tee" 77 of Olathe Kansas gained his wings on April 13, 2023, with his wife Beverly Hester by his side. Lonnie was born May 14,1945, in Heth, Arkansas to the late Clarence Sr. and Hattie Mae Hester. He was one of 15 children.
Lonnie grew up in Heth, Arkansas, where he attended Hughes High School where he played basketball and baseball during his younger years. Lonnie enjoyed wildlife, hunting, fishing, and he had a passion for gardening and cooking. Lonnie loved being around family and friends. He was a member of the Night Riders Motorcycle Club in Toledo, Ohio.
Lonnie worked a variety of jobs after retiring from the railroad. He spent some time as an over the road truck driver and Head Chef at the Seagate Center, but the one that he felt most proud of was being supervisor over the city's community garden project.
In 1964, Lonnie married Sedonia Thomas, to this union was born Zelda (Stephen) Neese (3 children), Terrance Hester (7 children), Derrick (Quetta) Hester (5 children), Lonnie C. Hester Jr. (6 children), Kassaundra (Derick) McDonald (4 children). Lonnie relocated his wife and 2 children to Davenport IA in 1965. Where he lived until 1970 and then moved to Toledo, OH.
In 1971, while living in Toledo, Ohio Lonnie met and married Teresa Mayes on July 14, 1973, to this union was born Timothy Hester (2 children), Talvin (Jamieka) Hester (1 daughter) and Lonnette (Demetrius) George (3 children).
October 18, 1985, Lonnie married Beverly Williams in Davenport, Iowa, adding two more children Deborah Tensley-Jones, widowed (5 children) and Michael Tensley (2 Children). Lonnie and Beverly moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1986 where they Foster parented several children over the years and during that time adopted three more children, Camille Hester (2 daughters), Matthew (Shanice) Hester (4 children) and Erica (Samantha) Potter. They also obtained legal custody and raised Andre Rogers and Shantellis Pearson. The family were members of Central Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents Clarence Sr., Hattie Bass-Hester. Siblings: Clarence Jr. (Buddy), Frank, Frankie Mae, Dorothy, Roosevelt, Louise, and Willie (Wee-Wee). Son-in-law and friend Kert L. Jones, Grandson Lloyd C. Jones, and Great-granddaughter Isabella Jones.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Beverly Hester of 37 years, all 15 of his children, 31 grandchildren and host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by brothers Douglas (Pig), Robert (Bunny), Charles, Ray, and Michael Hester. Sisters: Betty, Carolyn, Diane, and Michelle Hester. Sister-in-laws: Sue Carol Hester (Davenport, Iowa) Linda Williams (Davenport) and Judy (Earl) Ellis (Kansas City, MO).
