Obituary

Lynn Boyd May, 57, was born on September 24, 1961 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late James W. May and Berline Smith May. He was the seventh of nine siblings. On August 31, 2019 he transitioned peacefully at Overland Park Regional Hospital with family at his side.

Lynn was a lifetime resident of Kansas City, Missouri. Lynn attended St. Louis Catholic Church during his early childhood and occasionally attended Swope Parkway Christian Church. His formal education consisted of attending Mark Twain Elementary School, Southeast Middle and Southeast High School. He received his B.A. Degree in Industrial Management and Industrial Relations from Missouri State University formally known as Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. He was employed at YRC, formerly known as Yellow Freight as a Terminal Manager. Previously Lynn held managerial positions at Roadway Express Incorporated, Central Transport and Conway. Lynn worked in the freight industry for thirty one years.

On September 24, 1988 he married his college sweetheart Linda Richmond. Their union blessed them with two outstanding children: a son, Anthony Lynn May and a daughter, Breanna Sherrie May.

Lynn loved and was loved by all of his family and friends. He was a phenomenal mentor who was always supportive of his loved ones. Lynn's early years were spent building upon his athletic talents and competitive spirit playing any sport he could with the young trio of May brothers, consisting of he, Kelvin and Carlton. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling in track, basketball and football, earning Letters in all sports for four years as well as being designated for All-City, All-Metro and various district honors in football. He was awarded the Knight Award in 1979 in recognition for being the highest ranked senior. Lynn's stellar athletic ability lead to a football scholarship offer from SWMSU. While attending SWMSU he was a four year letterman, All-Conference, in addition to being nominated as a Football All-American. Participating in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes throughout high school and college was pivotal to the development of his interpersonal skills. His college performance in football lead to a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins. Though he was an exceptional football player, basketball was his favorite sport. He even referred to himself as a "basketball junkie". After college he coached competitive league basketball for KC Blue, KC Select, MO-Kan Elite, and assisted with the Lee's Summit High School girls summer basketball program.

He was preceded in death by not only his parents, but also by his oldest sister Ellastene May Junior. Lynn leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy: his wife Linda Richmond May, son Anthony May, daughter Breanna May: sisters, Maryline May-Bridgeforth (Richard deceased), Gladys May-Horton (Robert deceased), Olivia May; brothers, James May (Linda), Robert May (Carolyn deceased), Kelvin May (Avis), and Carlton May (Tammie); a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
