Obituary

Mae Helen Herron, 71, passed away on July 14, 2019. She was born November 26, 1947, in Potts Camp, Mississippi, to Holly Asberry and Mary Ellen Reed. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, and three of her siblings: Roger Reed, Charles Rounds, and Bernita Rounds.

Helen moved to Kansas City, Mo in 1965, when she was just a teenager and was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Mo, graduating from Central high school in 1967. Shortly after graduating, Helen married her husband Henry Herron Jr. in 1967. During this marriage four children were born: Henry Herron III, Cheryl Herron, Kenneth L. Herron, and Siretha D. Herron.

Helen worked a plethora of jobs, working for Jackson County Juvenile Court from 1968-1969, AT&T from 1969-1981, Ace Paper Company, Commerce Bank, the IRS, and Rite Made Paper Company.

Helen had a strong spirit and gentle heart. She was a breast cancer survivor for well over 31 years. At a very early age, she learned to always be forgiving and to always love. She lived by this rule and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. Whenever Helen set her mind to do something, she would do it her way or no way. She was the rock and pillar of the family, never late and always the first on scene. She always knew things well before you knew about them. She was a dependable woman no matter the time of day or night. You could call her up and she was there ready to love, protect, and strengthen you.

Helen resided in Kansas City for the remainder of her life, enjoying her weekly four mile walks and exercises, swinging or rocking on the porch, fishing at the pond, cooking for family, reminiscing down memory lane, attending the casino, and playing her pick 3 numbers.

Helen was loved by all her family and will be missed by four children, Henry Herron III, Cheryl Herron, Kenneth L. Herron, and Siretha D. Herron; siblings, Freddie B. Asberry, Leroy Rounds, Lillian Glover, and Beatrice Rounds; six grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Jasmine, D'Andre, Chris, Ke'Ona, and Alicia; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
