Mae Esther Leapheart, 61, was born December 6, 1955, in Morrilton, Arkansas. She was the third daughter of the late Eddie Leonette and Inez Leapheart. Mae Esther graduated from Morrilton High School in 1973. She was the first African American majorette at Morrilton High School. After high school she went on to receive an Associate degree in Business Management in Little Rock, Arkansas. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and received a second Associate Degree from Penn Valley Community College. Mae worked at USF&G for approximately eighteen-years before moving to Commerce Bank Trust Company, where she remained for over a decade before her illness in 2013. Mae was baptized at an early age at St. Matthew #3 Church in Blackwell, Arkansas. She was a proud and faithful member of Shalom Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed assisting in the nursery and attending weekly bible study. Mae was an avid reader who loved shopping and cooking for her children and grandchildren. Mae had a passion for traveling and enjoyed spending time with her siblings. Mae departed this life on September 22, 2017 at Research Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia Canady. She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, LaTasha Barton-Thomas (Arthur), LaShee Thomas and Dominic Leapheart, all of Kansas City, MO; five sisters: Carolyn Betts, Chicago, IL, Linda Leapheart, Fort Worth, TX, Kathy Franklin (Michael), Sarah Kemp (Randy), Martha Dillard all of Morrilton, AR; two brothers, Charles Leapheart and Louis Leapheart of Morrilton, AR; two grandsons, Derion Council and DreVon Thomas, both of Kanas City, MO; five granddaughters, LaTasha Pittmon, DeAirra Holly, Antonia Carroll, Daja'Nique and Denim Leapheart all of Kansas City, MO; one great grandchild, Mason Bowden; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services Saturday, September 30, 10:00 a.m. at Shalom Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
