Mamie L.
Woodson
Aug 21, 1946 — May 9, 2020
Mamie Lee (Powell) Woodson was the first born to Reverend Robert Lee Powell Sr. and Martha (Strickland) Powell on August 21, 1946 in Canfield, Arkansas. Mamie entered into eternal rest on May 9th 2020, preceded in death by both parents and three siblings Juanita Powell, Willie Powell and Robert Powell Jr. Mamie was married to Kendrick Woodson who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a special friend, Homer Stovall.
Mamie received her education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District and was proud to be a "Mighty, Mighty Eagle" in the class of 1965 Centralities! She believed strongly in education and invested her resources into the education of her two daughters, Angela and De'Shawn. She proudly lived to see one daughter earn a Juris Doctorate Degree and the other one a Master's Degree in Entrepreneurial Real Estate.
Mamie loved to travel, and has toured several different countries. She cherished going to the sporting events of her children and grandchildren, and she was fondly referred to as "Grandma" by all of their friends.
Mamie had many careers, but her primary profession was that of a cook. She worked tirelessly for many years at Two Rivers Hospital as the Director of Food Service. Mamie retired from Trinity Lutheran Hospital and Children's Mercy Hospital as a cook at both facilities. Mamie was a sales woman extraordinaire and entrepreneur. She sold Avon, insurance and burial plans, as well as operated her own catering business.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age as a member of Fredonia Missionary Baptist Church. Mamie was a cancer survivor, and after re-dedicating her life to Christ in 2007, she shared her faith and her testimony of healing with everyone who would listen. At her church, Anointed House of Glory COGIC, she served on the Mother Board and as the Pastor's Aid President. Mamie encouraged the young women, supported the Youth, Sunday School and Outreach Ministries.
She loved people and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Mamie is survived by her two daughters: Angela (Daniel) McDonald and Martha DeShawn (Darwin) Neal of Grandview Missouri. One sister: Rodina Powell of Oakland California. Special friend: Harry Williams of Kansas City, Missouri. Five grandsons: Daniel (Shanicka) McDonald II, Darwin Neal Jr., Quentin (Whitney) Neal, Rayshaun McDonald and Zion Neal, three granddaughters: Ta'Nyka East, Brazille Neal-Watkins, Ashley (John) Wallace, four nephews: Michael Powell Sr, Mark Powell Sr, Willie Powell Jr, Robert Powell, two nieces: Telitha Powell and Liberty Powell, nine great grandchildren and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and host of cousins, church family and friends.
