Marcellus Nathaniel Hughes, Jr., 74, KCMO, passed away on October 9, 2017 at the home. He was born April 21, 1943 to the union of Marcellus Nathaniel Hughes, Sr. and Lolita (Sidney) Hughes in Kansas City, Kansas. Both parents preceded him in death. As a lifelong area resident, Marcellus was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools graduating from Lincoln High School. He furthered his education at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Marcellus was employed with Black Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City as the Executive Director. He was later employed with the Kansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau working in several capacities advancing his way to become the Director of Membership Services from which he retired. Marcellus was an avid golfer and was the Grand Marshal at the River Oak Golf Course. He played in several golf tournaments throughout the greater Kansas City area. In November 2, 2011 he was appointed by Mayor Sly James to the P. I. E. A. Board of Directors. He was active in several community organizations. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Luz A "Lucy" Hughes of the home; one son, Byron Marcellus Hughes (LaTasha) of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Tiera Donnell of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Jahi Boseda of North Kansas City, MO and William White, Sr. of Kansas City, KS; two sisters, Donna Hughes, Kansas City, MO and Gina Cheatham, Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, October 14, 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Church International. Private disposition. Visitation 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E.
