Obituary

Margaret Ann Smith, 77, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at her residence in Kansas City Missouri. Margaret was born January 2, 1940 in Simmonsville, South Carolina to Robert Simmons, Sr. and Louise (Alston) Simmons. Robert Sr. and Louise raised Margaret in Pawley's Island, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Robert Simmons, Sr.; husband, Cecil Lee Smith; sisters, Annie Grate, Vera Green, Ruthena Davis; and granddaughter, Chyel Smith-Fisher. Margaret received her education in the Georgetown, South Carolina public schools and was a graduate of Howard High school. In Kansas City, Missouri she continued her education in the Health field and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Margaret retired after forty years of dedicated service. Margaret married Cecil Lee Smith on October 7, 1961 in Wilmington Delaware. From their union Clarence, Cynthia, Adrianne, and Cecelia Vanessa were born. Margaret also had two step children, Laverne Smith Taylor and Earl Smith. Margaret Ann Smith was a faithful member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church for over forty years. She raised each of her four children in the church encouraging them to know and serve the Lord. She served on the Usher Board, Health ministry, Sunday School, and Baptist Training Union (BTU). Margaret's love is remembered by: her children, Clarence Smith, Cynthia Smith, Adrianne Smith Young, and Cecelia Vanessa Smith; brothers, Robert Simmons, Jr. (Zanthia) of Pawley's Island, SC, Nathaniel Simmons (Irene) of Rochester, NY, Louis Simmons (Claydell) of Columbia, SC, and James 'Jimmy' Simmons (Cherise) of Roselle, NJ; sisters, Bessie Whitted of Roselle, NJ, Josephine Richardson of Georgetown, SC, Earlene Wilson of Pawley's Island, SC, and Sherry Barnes (David) of Rochester, NY; dearest friend of over fifty years, Adella Galloway. Margaret was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren, Ranajah Smith, Sethia D. Smith, Sherice Holoman, Trey A. Young, Alexandria N. Young, C.L. Smith, Brien Vaughan, Chiyah Smith, Kaniyah Smith Prince, Khi Smith, Ce'Rajhi Smith and two great grandchildren, Stevie Ransburg and Zai'Aire Vaughan. She will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, March 20, 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
