Marian R.
Mcgee
Oct 5, 1929 — Jun 18, 2020
Marian Roberta (Coleman) McGee was born on October 5th in Humbolt, Kansas. She was the fifth child of George Harley and Henrietta (Grubbs) Coleman. Both parents, two brother, Virgil L. Coleman and Harold H. Coleman, three sisters, Thelma L. Eason, Virginia Scott and Vivian J. Graham, her beloved son, Floyd W. Wood and son-in-law Willie Raglon all preceded her in death.
Marian left Humbolt, Kansas and ventured to Kansas City, Missouri where she met and married James B. Wood and to this union four children were born, Rhonda, Marlene, Karen and Floyd.
Marian had an abiding faith that was instilled in her as a young child. Shortly after moving to Kansas City, she found her forever church home. Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church welcomed and embraced Marian for more than sixty (60) years. Marian proved her worth by serving as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Hostess ministry when time permitted. Marian proudly served on the Usher Board over forty (40) years and had expressed an interest in the church drama club and the nursery/pre-school programs.
Marian began her career at General Motors in 1977 where she worked manual labor (on the line) for 29 years until retiring in 2006. Marian was very proud of this accomplishment for a job well done. Marian wrote out a "to-do" list for her retirement which would begin the next day at 9am-6pm. Her list consisted of, in her own words, doing nothing, taking a break, having lunch, doing nothing and taking another break before bed.
Marian had a joy for traveling, cooking family dinners, being surrounded by loving family and friends, eating ice cream and most of all watching her "boyfriend" on television, Mr. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
On June 18, 2020, Marian said she was tired and the Lord gave her rest. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Rhonda K. Raglon, Marlene E. Wood and Karen D. Wood; her grandchildren, Kim S. Wood, Flariece (Reecie) Wood, Shayna Wood and Ramyia (Myia) Silvers; her great-granddaughter, Kayla Wood and MKhila Workcuff, a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 2:00pm at the Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation Saturday 1:00pm-2:00pm at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to the COVID 19 situation all are required to wear masks.
