Obituary

Marshall Clay Washington, 62, made a calm and peaceful journey to his homecoming on March 17, 2016 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He leaves behind many treasured memories with family and friends, both young and old from many walks of life. Marshall was born on August 12, 1953 in Coffeyville, KS to the late Robert and Hannah Washington where he graduated from Field Kindley High School. After high school, he started his family and briefly joined the United States Army and did a tour in Germany. After the military, he lived in Dallas, TX and worked in various positions gaining knowledge and expertise in many different areas. Later, he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri to attend DeVry University and earned a degree in electronics. Although he enjoyed his time at DeVry, he was autodidactic in nature and joyfully continued to research and read about subjects that interested him. He was an inexhaustible reader, loved watching documentaries about history and religion. He was a self-taught musician playing bass and percussions. It is no wonder he was an eclectic music lover who always appreciated the depths of well crafted lyrics as well as the sound of the instruments from all genres. Marshall was open to hearing the opinions of others without judging but was never shy about sharing his own. He was a celebratory man and walked an unconventional road that made his life colorful, exciting and intriguing to many. He was well loved and knew how to love. He will be remembered for his catchphrases, 'whoopty damn doo' and 'in a minute', and his quest to make the perfect pot of greens. He was preceded in death by his daughter Shauntelle 'Shaun' Washington, his brother, Clyde Jackson, his two sisters, Jewel Harris and Batheia 'Holly' Scales. He is survived by his two sons, Marcus Washington and Robert Washington, his daughter, Hannah Washington, his sister, Esther Washington, and four grandchildren, Rai'liyah, Amina, Jamianah and Rysheena. Although his physical journey with us on Earth is done, his life with us has far from ended. As he always said, 'in a minute' Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 23, 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website. Memorial Service: 4545 Benton Blvd Kansas City, Missouri 64130 Wednesday, March 23, 2016
