Martha M.
Addison
Jul 20, 1930 — Feb 27, 2019
Martha M. Addison, 88, was born July 20, 1930 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Leroy Franklin White and Cora Mae White. She was preceded in death by the two loves of her life Wilbur Addison and James Kinchon, her parents, five sisters, two brothers, her oldest son Wilbur Garnett Addison, two grandsons Cedric Addison and Kevin Gerard Addison, Jr. and one son-in-law James Brown Jr.
Martha was educated in public schools of Hutchinson, Kansas. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1948 to continue her education towards a nursing degree at General Hospital II. She achieved this goal in 1950.
Martha was married to Wilbur Addison on January 1, 1952. She was employed by Queen of the World Hospital until 1965 when the hospital closed. She continued her nursing career in 1966 at Research Medical Center until her retirement date in 1993.
Martha was fondly known as "Momma Martha, Aunt Martha, Tootie, Aunt Melissa, Aunt Lissy, Addie, Granny and Gammy" just to name a few. She had many artistic gifts which included crafts and baking. She also had the gift of nurturing everyone and anyone who was looking for positive leadership. She had so many, many children from everywhere that she took under her wings and molded into beautiful human beings. She was a firm believer of "The village raising a child".
Martha, as a child, was raised in an A.M.E. church. She converted to Catholicism in 1951. She loved the Lord and wanted a true personal relationship with Him. In her Christian journey she studied in a non-denomination church. In later years she went back to her beginnings in the Methodist church, praising the Lord from her bed and watching online. Her daily prayer without fail Proverbs 3:5-6 morning, noon and night.
Martha departed this life on February 27, 2019 at home with her daughter by her side. She no longer wanted to fly in this earthly realm with one wing.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Cynthia Bennett (niece-daughter), Sherilynne Griggs (Lee), Corita Ann Brown of Kansas City, and Andrea Phills (Wydell) of Allen,TX; four sons, Stephen Addison (Sharon) of Kansas City, David Lee Addison of Minnesota, Anthony
Addison, and Kevin Addison, Sr. (Marsha); thirty grandchildren, fifty-six great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren; her sister in Christ, Allie B.
