Marva Jean McAlester, 61, passed away on May 8, 2018 at Research Medical Center. She was born June 6, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jannie Mae McAlester; father, Horace McAlester; life partner, Ralph Darrough; brother, Edward Courtney; sisters, Sametta Gamble and Edith Barnes; nephews, Malcolm Courtney, Alphonso Thompson; and niece, Tekoa McAlester.

Marva graduated from Lincoln High School. She was a homemaker who loved her children and grandchildren. She was very artistic and enjoyed knitting, doing hair and enjoying life. She loved watching movies, going to Walmart and ordering from QVC. Marva would give you the clothes off her back. She was the kindest person you would ever meet, and loved doing whatever she could to make her grandchildren smile.

She is survived by her children, DwJuane McAlester, Shawnquita McAlester (Michael), Paula McAlester, Scoutt Brooks (Jonathan), Horace McAlester (Breia) and Elyshua McAlester; brothers, Reginald McAlester and Alphonso McAlester; sisters, Mary Andrews (Donald), Barbara Courtney, Margie Thompson, Frances Courtney, Diane McAlester and Eartha Norman; grandchildren, Christine, Camill, Dwjuane (Mia), Cayden, Riley, Jonathan II, and Aubrie; special nephews and nieces, Antoine Courtney (Yolanda), Shawna Courtney (Dawayne), Saladin Courtney (Theresa), Nicole Courtney (John), Cashunda Thomas and Johnell Hunter (Tammy); fiend, Dana Mitchell and a host of other relatives and friends.
