Marva Jean Lolles Saunders was born January 27, 1945 to the union of Walter and Frankie Lolles in Sedalia, Missouri. Marva won the healthiest baby in the Missouri State Fair in 1947. Soon after that the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Marva received her education in Kansas City Public Schools, Lincoln High School Class of 1963.
Marva worked as a baker for Kansas City Public Schools at Lincoln High School 1964-1965. This is where she learned how to bake delicious cakes and pies so many have come to love. Marva furthered her education by enrolling in Nursing School, graduating as an LPN, November 1970, after which she immediately began her illustrious career. Marva began at St. Luke's Hospital, Swope Ridge, Research Hospital, and finally Children's Mercy Hospital where she started in the Emergency Room helping to design the Trauma Center, worked in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic, then landing the position as Head Nurse of the Ophthalmology/Eye Clinic, where she remained and retired after 30 years.
Marva, received Christ at an early age under the Pastoral guidance of Rev. Sims. She later moved her membership to True Vine Baptist Church in 1973 under Rev. Elbert Hyche. In 1979 she moved her membership to Pleasant Green Baptist Church KCK under the leadership of Rev. David L. Gray, where she served faithfully in many different capacities of service, doing so with great pride wherever she was assigned until her passing.
Everything she touched was beautiful like her, including the sweet nickname "Suga momma" given to her by granddaughter Angela. She was also known as Bobbie given to her by brother Vernon.
Marva departed this life surrounded by family, Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the home she was familiar with for 70 years. She dearly loved this home with the love that came in and out over the years, that she accepted it being called "The Macon Stronghold."
Marva was proceeded in death by grandparents Frank & Mollie Macon, grandparent Hannah Lolles, parents Walter Lolles & Frankie Andrews, infant son, and special sister Doris Moreland.
She leaves to mourn her passing; 3 daughters, Lisa (Kit) Kelley, Desiree Graves, Lezley King, adopted daughter Denise Hambrick, special daughters Kim Nickerson, Latasha (Boo) Mulkey, LaNetta (Neicy) Watson, sister Rose Harvey of Huntsville, AL, brother Lonnie Sides of Chicago IL, brother Vernon Day of KCMO, and special sisters Mary Miller and Barbara Akins, and grandchildren; Angela (Arlando) Hughes, Walter (Brianna) Graves, Steven (Terri) Graves, Kristopher (Erica) Kelley, and Micah Kelley. Also, 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church, Kansas City, KS. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00am-10:45am at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
