Obituary

Mary Frizell Finch (Friz) was born on January 12, 1936, in Burnt Corn, Alabama to the late Willie Robert and Quentella (Watson) Ladd. She was the second of twelve children. Mary passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the age of 86.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Bethany Baptist Church in Burnt Corn, AL. Friz graduated from high school at B.I.A. (Bethlehem Industrial Academy) in Monroeville, Alabama. On December 28, 1953, Mary married John Henry Finch in Burnt Corn, AL. Two children were born to this union, Sharron and Kim Finch.

Friz and Henry moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1954 and became members at the Paradise Baptist Church. While in Omaha, Mary was a Homemaker and worked as a Seamstress and Tax Preparer. She received a Tax Degree from the Omaha OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center).

In 1978, Friz and Henry moved to Belton, Missouri. After relocating to Missouri, they united with the Skylight Baptist Church in Kansas City. While at Skylight, Mary served as a Sunday School Teacher, worked with the Youth Department and was on the Mother's Board.

Mary dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and they loved her. In addition to spending quality time with her family, she enjoyed cooking, fishing and listening to gospel music.

Friz was preceded in death by her parents Willie Robert and Quentella Ladd, daughter, Sharron Finch, brothers Robert, Bill, Roosevelt and Alvin Ladd, sisters Virgesnese McCroy, Gennie V. Ladd, Mildred McCants and Jeraldine Ladd-Jones.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, John Henry Finch, daughter Kim (Steve) Finch- Brown, grandson, Tiant (Kristy) Finch, granddaughter Jessie Finch, great granddaughter Nyalah Hernandez-Finch, great grandson T.J. Finch, sister Ethel (Daniel) Holmes of Omaha, NE., brothers John and Steve Ladd of Omaha, NE., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Interment Monday, November 7, 2022 at 9:00 am., Leavenworth National Cemetery.
