Obituary

Mary Anne (Young) McIntosh, 62, was born January 8, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri, the fourth child of Willie and Annie Mae Young. Mary was educated in the Kansas City area and graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1972. She furthered her education at Stillman College, where she took several classes. Following high school, Mary enlisted in the United States Army where she served three years of active duty before being honorably discharged. She then returned to Kansas City and enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving our country for another three years before being honorably discharged yet again. After returning home, Mary married Kenneth McIntosh. Their union was later dissolved, however she was gifted with two children, Michael and Melissa. Mary began working for the United States Postal Service in December 1987. She worked as a mail carrier until retiring in 2010. Mary enjoyed going to the casino, reading books and relaxing with family and friends. She especially loved doing and going places with her grandchildren. Mary departed this life on May 31, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Young and Annie Mae Waller, and a son, Michael Young. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Melissa Young Whitsett (Edward); two brothers, Will J. Young (Margaret), Robert Young (Rochelle) and a step-brother, Ricky Waller (Marva); six sisters, Katie Jones (Jim), Susie Fields (Marcus), Carolyn Young, Loretta Young (Hershey), Sharon McGowan (Dary) and Saundra Williams; eight grandchildren, Michael Young, Jr., Julian Evans, Isaiah Collins, Evaun Evans, Makayla Young, Omega Jones, Kassidy Paige and Micah Young; daughter-in-law, Harriett Williams; longtime and faithful companion, Jesse Smith and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 8, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
