Mattie Sue Pierce, 80, was born on October 10, 1940 to the union Louis Calvert and Lucille Shaffer in West Point, Mississippi. Her parents, two brothers, Willie F. Randle and W. G. Moore, sister, Mary Julia Franks and one son, Benjamin Pierce all preceded her in death.
Mattie Sue was educated in the Mississippi and Kansas public schools. She was united in marriage to James Otis who also preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age in Mississippi, after moving to the Kansas City, Kansas area she united with the Mt. Zion Church of God In Christ and sang in the choir.
Mattie Sue was a line worker at Honey Baked Ham until she retired, after ten years of service. She was a dedicated and caring mother, sister and grandmother who enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends especially during the holidays.
She departed this life on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the St. Luke's Hospital.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, James Calvert, Ronnie Pierce, Rickey Pierce (Elicia), Tommie Pierce; two daughters, Mary Birmingham and Tresa Pierce; two brothers, Willie B. Franks and Sammie H. Franks; six sisters, Nodenia Love, Bessie M. Robinson, Georgia B. Raleigh, Pleasanner Robinson, Shirley Ann Blair and Elizabeth Franks; a host grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 11:00am at Grace & Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Cemetery. Visitation 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
