Merelene Sutherlin, 73, KCMO, passed away on December 23, 2016. She was born March 4, 1943 in Wilmot, Arkansas to Henry Scott and Irene Sorrells. His parents; five brothers, Alonzo Scott, Frank Scott, Henry Scott, Jr., Eler A.L. Scott and Johnny Scott; two sisters, Florean King and Lorean Randolph; and her daughter, Karen Sutherlin-Morrow all preceded her in death. Merelene was educated in the public schools of Little Rock, Arkansas and Kansas City, Missouri. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, she was employed by a local home health agency for a number of years. Merelene was united in marriage to Harold E. Sutherlin who also preceded her in death. She loved people just as much as she loved her family, and embraced others from all different walks of life. She enjoyed collecting dolls, what nots, jewelry, and cookie jars, as well as entertaining others. She was a true queen who always kept it real and will be remembered for her passion for life. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Rodney Sutherlin (Talonda) and Steven Sutherlin (Nicole); two brothers, Theodore Scott (Mary) and Robert Scott; five sisters, Ersielene Ruffin, Rosielene Matthews, Charlene Webb (Albert), Dorothy Burns and Darlene McDaniel; three granddaughters, Shentell Saulsberry, Mequell Saulsberry-Williams and LaShay Sutherlin; two great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 31, 2:00 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the chapel.
