Obituary

Michael Don Carter, 58, was born on July 12, 1960 to Almer and Myrtle Carter in Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. Carter attended school in the Kansas City, Missouri area until the family relocated to Coffeyville, Kansas in the 1970's. He attended Field Kindley High School and also took college courses at Coffeyville Community College. Mr. Carter worked several odd jobs during this time but ultimately Mr. Carter was an entrepreneur owning several businesses.

In 1979, Mr. Carter met the love of his life Mrs. Bonita Thomas. The two married on January 15, 1986. Mr. and Mrs. Carter lived in Coffeyville, Topeka and Wichita, Kansas before settling in Kansas City, Missouri in 2009. Mr. Carter rededicated his life to Christ in 2018 and was a faithful deacon and member of Beyond The Four Walls Outreach Ministry of Kansas City, Missouri.

Michael Carter was inducted into the Masonic Brotherhood Enterprise Lodge Chapter #70 in 2009 and later joined Pride of the West #53 after the family relocated. Mr. Carter loved farm life, music and family, as he had a hand in raising various nieces and nephews.

Michael Don Carter departed from this life on April 25, 2019 at Truman Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Jacqueline Vann, and one brother George Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Bonita Carter; one son Al Daniel Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Thomas Moore, Cortlan West, KeAyra Smith, and Kayla Paden all of Kansas City, Missouri and Demarius Smith of Coffeyville, Kansas; one brother Marion Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; two aunts Willie Mae Carter and Mae Carter of Kansas City, Missouri and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, May 4, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
