Obituary

Michael Edgar Reed, passionately known as "Mike" was born November 20, 1961 in Wichita, Kansas to the union of Perry and Eunice Reed. He was the second son and baby brother to Gary and Pearl. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister and other close family members.

Michael received his education as a product of the Kansas City School District, graduating from De La Salle High school in the Class of 1982. Setting his sights on life after school, he entered the working world at the Quarterage Hotel later becoming a skilled Machinist for the last two decades with Wichita Sheet Metal Company, where he was currently employed.

Michael's distinct love of music began at an early age. Under the tutelage of his father, his penchant of various musical instruments grew with a passion for the Drums. Mike would fondly reminisce of the afterhours sessions held at the Mutual Musicians Foundation on 18th and Highland. Being known as the "Music man", Mike would DJ at his home, your home, Birthdays and weddings, and many venues in the city.

Mike accepted Christ at Community Progressive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Short. Mike praised the Lord with the loud and high-sounding cymbals as the beat of his drum vibrated throughout the church every Sunday morning. He poured this zest into his grandson Jaxson as his interest of percussions developed.

On August 26, 1995, Michael was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Sandra Deneene Robinson Reed, enlarging his family which included Monica, Martae, and their son Jarron. A loving husband and devoted father, he equipped them with his caring nature and values as his children matured into adulthood. Michael was the type of gentleman who was reserved, laid back, family oriented, counted on to haul, move and do whatever was needed, whenever; always right there for you. His close friends were his family as well, as they all gathered at "Club Mike" in his back yard. You would know it was the 4th of July, He would be sure to "let the music play" as he showcased the latest audio equipment ensuring you can feel the beat, as you tapped your feet to down home Blues or Two stepping 70's hits, he had it all.

On Friday September 21, 2018 Michael left this earthly life, received his wings, and traded his cross for his crown to rest eternally in the Master's arms.

Michael leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, his wife of 23 years, Sandra Reed; three children, Monica Swayzer, Martae Swayzer and Jarron (Brandy) Reed, all of Kansas City, MO; brother, Gary D. Reed of Kansas City, MO; 6 grandchildren, Trevon Wainwright, Martae Swayzer, Dominic Williams, Sh'Nijah Swayzer, ZaMarie Swayzer and Jaxson Reed; God sister, Denise Hawkins, Kansas City, MO; his Wichita and Kansas City families, and a host of other relatives and friends.
