Obituary

Minister Nathaniel G. Yates, 84, passed away on November 15, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born June 29, 1935 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Simon and Pearline (Chandler) Yates. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam Yates and Willie B. Yates; sisters, Daisy Lee Reynolds and Irene Cloud; children, Gary L. Palmer, Brian K. Yates and Nathan P. Yates.

Nathaniel was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Kansas. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, where he served as Minister. He affectionately became known as "Rev".

Minister Yates was united in marriage to Ms. Emma Collins on June 24, 1999. He was a kind and generous man who was always concerned about others, being willing to help wherever he could. His favorite saying was, "How you and the Lord getting along".

Nathaniel was employed with UMKC for a number of years, retiring in 2000.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Emma J. Yates; three sons, Robert D. Yates, Nathaniel Yates, Jr. and Anthony Yates; three daughters, Janice Hornsby-Broome, Lillie Nash (Daryl) and Shaunte Thomas (Derrick); grandchildren, Irene Yates, Margarine Yates, Brandon Willingham, Robert Willingham and Jerome Willingham; two God-daughters, Monique Williams and Amanda Williams; along with a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, November 30, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Holy Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
