Mitchell Gene Floyd, Sr., 69, was the first born of seven children to the union of Rev. Alfred G. and Delores Floyd on June 19, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska and he was preceded in death by Rev. Alfred Gene & Delores Floyd, Mitchell Gene Floyd Jr. and Shilah N. Floyd (granddaughter). Mitchell Gene Floyd Sr. was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri public school district where he completed the twelfth grade. Upon completion of high school, Mitchell Floyd Sr. enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1963. He attended several state colleges in pursuit of a liberal arts degree in Black History. During his tenure in the Marine Corps, he was the first black sniper in Vietnam for which he received a special plaque for his services. He also received special accolades for his service in Vietnam. In addition to serving in Vietnam, Mitchell was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His allegiance church was Genesis Missionary Baptist Church of KCMO. Mitchell worked for many years for the KCMO Water Department where he also received several accolades in relation to his job performance. Mitchell Gene Floyd Sr. departed this life on May 15, 2016 at Providence Medical Center of KCKS. Mitchell leaves to cherish in his memory: Deborah - his wife and the mother of his six children - Adrienne Floyd, Alicia Floyd, Mashann Walker (Donell), Dilicia Floyd and DeAngela Floyd; Ethel Jackson; his son, Malcolm Jackson; Billie Jean Jackson and Angela Jackson (his stepchildren); his siblings - Michael Floyd (Barbara), Donna Richison, Cheryl Bennett (Larry), Diane Floyd, Jeaulanda Floyd, Pamela Banks; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, May 27, 12:00 p.m. at Covenant Memorial Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
