Monica Renee Hughes, 43, KCMO, passed away on July 8, 2017. She was born December 7, 1973 to Clay Fountain and Tracy Shaw in Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents preceded her in death. Affectionately known as 'Moni Dew', Monica was adopted at a young age by Clarence Hughes and Phyllis Carlisle who welcomed her into a wonderful loving family. Her father, Clarence Hughes also preceded her in death. Monica was educated in the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools and was a graduate of Ruskin High School, Class of 1991. She later found employment at a local grocery store in the city. Monica accepted Christ and was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Jesse Frazier. She truly loved the Lord. Monica was a loving mother, daughter and sister who was full of joy and laughter. She enjoyed spending time with her children and family, and was known for giving out big hugs. Monica shared a special relationship with Durand Banks, her younger children's father and with Jackie Cooper who was a devoted father to her older children. She had a passion for doing hair and a beautiful singing voice. She leaves to cherish her memory: eight children, Kortlin, Monique, Monikah, DaMontay, Moniyah, Dante and DaMiyah, all of Kansas City, MO and DaVon of Cleveland, OH; her mother, Phyllis Carlisle of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Sylvester Walker and Montay Fountain both of Kansas City, MO; one sister, Ivee Faith of Kansas City, MO; one grandson, JaQuel; special cousin, 'Marci Marci' and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Memorial services will be Saturday, July 22, 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
