Obituary

Nanishia Yvette Atkins, 43, was born on May 28, 1976 in Los Angeles, California to Clifton Douglas Atkins and Marla René Harvey. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Charley and Mildred Harvey; aunts Rhea Lynette Warrington, Denita Gail Harvey-Tamplin; cousin Charley T. Cox; paternal grandfather Charles Mason; aunt Cleo Butler and several other loved ones.

Nanishia was educated in the public schools of Los Angeles, Woodland Hills and Spring Valley, California. She was a Licensed CNA, Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. She was the first African American Homecoming Queen in the history of Monte Vista High School.

Nanishia accepted Christ at an early age and remained a Christian. She was an avid volunteer who never met with a stranger.

Nanishia departed this life on Friday, October 4, 2019 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Jordan Brown and Jaden Douyon; daughter, Janelle Douyon; father, Clifton D. Atkins Sr.; mother, Marla R. Harvey-Atkins; brothers, Christopher Atkins, Clifton Atkins Jr. and William Atkins; sisters, Brittany Duncan and Chauntra Burton; grandmother, Billie Franklin; aunts, Mitzi Harvey-Key (Mi Mi), Helen Lane-Watson and Robin Harvey; uncles, Charles Harvey, Tevis Harvey, Terence Harvey and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends and associates.

Funeral services Friday, October 18, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church pf Liberty. Interment Terrace Park Cemetery. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
