Born in Clearview, Oklahoma, Ola Mae Norton was the second child to Parsee Williams and Sallie Diane (Parker) Williams on June 1, 1924. Two children, Alvin Jr. and Diane; five brothers, Melvin, Dewitt "Freddie", Clyde, Randolph and Wilker "Little Boy"; two sisters, Ione and Mildred "Tinite"; three grandchildren, Felicia, Darren Christopher and Mylon all preceded her in death.

Ola Mae graduated from Clearview High School in 1944. She married Alvin D. Norton, Sr. in 1945. Born to this union were six children, Verlie, Alvin Jr., Alfreda, Diane, Dorice "Paul", and Shirly. The family moved to Kansas City, KS from Oklahoma in 1951. In 1954 the family moved from Kansas City, KS to Kansas City, MO. She was a loyal member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years.

"Mother", as Ola Mae was known, started cooking as a young child. This God given gift later in life employed "Mother" to work at Jimmy & Mary's Steakhouse in the early 1950's. She also worked at the V.A. Hospital as a cook for over 20 years. She served in the MMBC cooking ministry for several years and her specialties were homemade rolls, peach cobblers, mac and cheese, and spaghetti. "Mother" was also known for her "church hats".

"Mother" was an avid traveler, traveling as far west to Alaska and every state in between the United States, asfar East to Niagara Falls, two trips to the Bahamas, a trip to Hawaii, and Jamaica. "Mother" was a member of NAACP, and Jack & Jill of America.

Ola Mae Norton passed away on March 14, 2019 at Wilshire Lakewood Care Center, at the age of 94.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Verlie (Constance), Alfreda, Dorice "Paul" (Denise) and Shirly; grandchildren, Verlie Tyrone, Alvin, Angela, Darnell, Shauntell, Aaron (Kim), Sean, Shelly, Bennie, Nicholas, Troy, Lance Turner (Angela), Nicky, Bob Williams, Aleda Monroe, Veronica Mitchell, and Chesla Mitchell; twenty-seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Taylor and Gloria Dean Bennett; a host other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services Friday, March 22, 11:00 a.m. at Central Christian Church. Interment Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
