Olivia Marie (Simmons) Wilkins, 75, was born July 17, 1942 to the late Arthur Weaver and Margaret Simmons. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ersulene Simmons, Shirlyn West, Debra Simmons and a daughter, Tina Wilkins.

Olivia accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for thirty years. She later became a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Olivia was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District, graduating from Manual High School. She furthered her education in cosmetology.

After working many years as a cosmetologist, Olivia began a career at Ditmco International where she worked as a receptionist until her health began to fail in 2010.

Olivia had many talents including bowling, sewing, two-stepping, and cooking. In fact, her macaroni and cheese was revered by many. Olivia also spent time volunteering at Jackson County Combat to help in the fight against violence and drug addiction.

While she enjoyed many activities, spending time with family was her greatest joy. She raised three generations of children and taught them respect, work ethic and other values and principles. She also made sure to instill in all of her family the love of Christ and the importance of putting Him first.

Oliva departed this world on Sunday, March 25, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory: a brother whom she raised as her son, Darryl Simmons (Candace) and sons, Joe Wilkins (Linda) and Raymond Wilkins (Christine); daughters, Tanya Wilkins and Shellie Hemphill (Keith); a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
