Obituary

Onia Leon Morgan, Jr., 62, peacefully departed this life on June 15, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 29, 1956 at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, to Onia Leon Morgan, Sr. and Frances Beverly Ann Carey. His parents, brother Reginald Eugene Morgan and sister Beverly Estella Morgan preceded him in death.

"Leon", as he was affectionately known, accepted Christ and was baptized at Highland Baptist Church. He later united with Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, Sr. and current pastor Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield II.

Leon was a graduate of Lincoln High School, class of 1974. During this time he joined Drum & Bugle Corp. He later completed classes at the local community college before attending Lincoln University, where he played football for one year. Soon after college Leon was hired at Union Pacific Railroad in 1977, where he worked his way up from a brakeman and retired as a railroad conductor. He was also a chief union steward. Leon acquired many certifications in the areas of bartending, cooking and even funeral service, landing him a position with Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors as a driver.

Leon had a passion for singing, and did so often with the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church choir for many years. He also had a passion for dancing, two-stepping being his favorite. Leon was known for sharply dressing himself in his own unique way, nothing ever being out of place. His greatest enjoyment was giving love and support to his family. He was always there when you needed him and for that he will be deeply missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Onia Leon Morgan III; one daughter, Onica Morgan; four brothers, Rufus F. Morgan, Sr. (Maria), Gregory E. Morgan (Evelyn), Quentin L. Morgan (Maria) and Michael E. Morgan; two sisters, Sandra Wells (Vernon) and Jennifer Dean; special friend, Clarretha Williams; three grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services Saturday, June 22, 12:00 p.m. at New Vision Christian Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
