Orris Bell Woodcox, 85, was born September 4, 1934 in Pickens, Mississippi to John Earl and Lovia Woodcox. She was the youngest of three. She was preceded in death by both parents, siblings Christine M. Brownlee and Hilliard C. Woodcox, three nephews, one niece and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Orris was educated in Pickens, Mississippi and completed her education in St. Louis, Missouri when her family relocated in the 1940's. They later moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the early 1960's.
At an early age, Orris was a member of Union Church in Mississippi. She was a member of Coleman Church in St. Louis and later united with Cain Grant A.M.E. Church in Kansas City.
"Bell" was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt who was very special to many. Her doors were always open to others whether they were hungry or needed a place to lay their head, she made room. Orris loved to sew, cook, play cards and socialize with family and friends. Word is, she was light on her feet with her moves on the dance floor.
The book of life closed for Ms. Orris Bell Woodcox on November 23, 2019 at 10:15 a.m., at home with family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Timothy Woodcox, Hilliard Woodcox (Pam) and Paul Woodcox; one daughter, Eva Phillips; one nephew, Daniel Adams; one niece, Eartha Coleman; six grandchildren, Timothy, Tony, Kenny, Hilliard, Kenneth and Angela (caregiver); twelve great grandchildren and a host of special relatives and friends.
Funeral services Saturday, December 7, 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Sinai missionary Baptist . Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
