Mr. Otis Lee Ellis, Jr. was born on August 30, 1941, in Farmersville, Louisiana, to the loving parents of Otis and Dorothy Ellis. From his Louisiana roots, Otis went on to build a meaningful life defined by faith, family, hard work, and community. For more than 60 years, he called the Kansas City, Missouri, community home and became a cherished part of the lives of many who knew and loved him.

Otis graduated from high school and furthered his education by completing some college. He was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent many years working for Owens Corning as a Fiberglass Assembly Line Worker. He was also a proud member of SEIU Local 1 – Missouri.

Otis was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and hunting and found great joy in gardening, especially growing fruits and vegetables. He also had a special love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar, particularly the blues. Whether outdoors tending his garden, enjoying time with family, pursuing his favorite hobbies, or sharing his love of music, Otis had a way of finding joy in the moments that made life meaningful.

Faith was also an important part of Otis' life. He was a member of Berea Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Harrisonville, Missouri, where he remained an active member until the ministry closed. His faith and connection to the church were meaningful parts of his journey.

Above all, Otis cherished his family. His greatest legacy will not only be found in the years he lived, but in the generations of family and friends who will continue to carry his memory forward. His presence, personality, wisdom, love, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Otis was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Dorothy Ellis; his beloved daughter, Brenda Anderson; his brother, Ernest Ray Ellis; and his sister, Maggie Newton.

He leaves to cherish his memory, Gwendolyn Ellis; his children, Jerome David Ellis (Bec) of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Lee Ellis (Kerry) of Independence, Missouri, Otis Lee Ellis III of Belton, Missouri, Terrell Stewart (Monica) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Michele Renee Ellis of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister, Dorothy Jean Madry of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members, friends, associates, and loved ones.

Otis Lee Ellis, Jr. leaves behind a legacy rooted in faith, family, perseverance, and love. His journey touched many lives, and the seeds he planted throughout his lifetime will continue to grow through the generations. Though he is no longer with us physically, his memory will live on through his family, his stories, his music, the things he loved, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

May his memory forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
