Ozell
Walker Jr.
Feb 24, 1954 — Jan 14, 2017
Ozell Walker, Jr., was born February 24, 1954, to the late Annie Bell (nee Banks) and Ozell Walker, Sr. in St. Louis, Missouri. Ozell grew up and was educated in the St. Louis Public School system and was a 1973 graduate of Beaumont High School. Oz met his former wife, Rochelle Hughes in 1978 and they married on February 2, 1980 in St. Louis. The couple had three sons (bonus to Oz - Brandon, bonus to Rochelle - Aaron, and one biological son, Julian). In January 1989, Oz accepted a position as the assistant manager of the Aldi Store on 29th and Prospect which caused the remainder of the family to move to the Kansas City area in August 1989. Oz and Rochelle have maintained a lifelong friendship even after their divorce. Oz eventually decided to seek employment in an area that he enjoyed, as a route delivery truck driver. He has been a loyal and dedicated employee of PepsiCo, Inc. for the last sixteen (16) years in this capacity. Ozell was an avid participant, competitor, and sports watcher all of his life. After high school, Oz tried out for the Chicago White Sox baseball team and his love for the game of baseball was obvious whenever he was in a position to watch a St. Louis Cardinal's baseball game. Whenever he had a chance and his children or grandchildren were playing sports, he was there to watch as well. Most recently, he watched his oldest granddaughter, Lexi, play collegiate basketball at Missouri State University. His love of sports wasn't just limited to baseball. A twenty (20) year member of the Kansas City Coed Dart Association, Oz was a past president of the league as well as playing with the South Kansas City 'The Bullshits' National Dart Association and American Dart Association league teams. Oz shared a love of football and bowling as well. Oz departed this life on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at home while on medical leave from PepsiCo. Ozell was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Banks (1991) and Ozell Walker, Sr. (1957), and his son Aaron (2004). In addition to his two surviving sons, Brandon (Stephanie) and Julian, he is also survived by his brother, John Banks; six grandchildren, three grandsons: Aaron Jr., Ameir, and Christian; three granddaughters: Alexis (Lexi), Ava and Ashlyn; one great grandchild Aaron III; an uncle, Moses Banks of Chicago, Illinois and an aunt, Muriel Louise Snow of Inglewood, California. He will be well remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, and friends. Memorial services will be Tuesday, January 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers that a donation be considered in the following manner: (1) The Breakfast Club, Inc. (http://www.breakfastclub-stl.org/), an African American sister-to-sister support organization to assist African American women with issues surrounding breast cancer (his mother, Annie).
