Obituary

Patricia Mae (Nelson) Robinson, 74, passed away unexpectedly while surrounded by loved ones at St. Luke's Hospital ICU in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, March 26, 2023. She was born May 30, 1948, to the union of Beatrice Patricia Nelson and Perry Clark in Kansas City, Missouri at General Hospital No. 2 that exclusively served African American patients. She was the eldest of three children born to this union. She remained a lifelong Kansas Citian.

At an early age, Patricia accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and gave her life to Christ.

As an adult, Pat joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ (PMBCJC), under the visionary leadership of Pastor Earl Abel. She would remain a devoted member for over 45 years until her death. She sang as an alto in the Mass and Senior Choirs and enjoyed volunteering with outreach ministries.

Patricia attended the Kansas City Missouri Schools from elementary until her graduation from then Lincoln High School (currently Lincoln College Preparatory Academy) in 1966 when Harry Hartwell was principal. Following graduation, Patricia began career exploration in the customer service and healthcare industries. She discovered the perfect merger of the two while working at Truman Medical Center as a Medical Records Specialist and later in their Gold Clinic as an Intake Clerk for 27 years until her retirement.

Pat remained attentive to conditions of African Americans in KC as a member of SAAC-20 (Black activism group focused on racial justice and redlining). Like her Father, she admired the efforts of Missouri House of Representative Leon Jordan, considered "one of the most influential African Americans in Kansas City's history" and chose "Leon" as her only child's middle name. She alone called him by that name and was born on Juneteenth of 1970. Less than a month after Leon's birth, the "state's most powerful black politician" was assassinated in July.

While busy raising her "Number Son" as she called him, "Leon", she requested the help of the neighborhood "The Fix it Man", Aaron Robinson. He not only repaired her refrigerator, he discovered his future wife. They were later married by Pastor Abel at PMBCJC on 34th & Askew witnessed by her dearest family and friends, specifically her late friend, Betty Byers and her younger sister, Carmenlita on August 3, 1991. Aaron and Pat enjoyed a loving and enduring marriage of nearly 32 years until her passing. They enjoyed hosting family and friends at their home with abundant and delicious home-cooked meals.

Pat's culinary talents passed down from her mother were well-known. Nothing was more satisfying than a meal from Ms. Pat's table. She truly fed the souls of many through her meals and kindness. She was a meticulous planner. Although she enjoyed being behind the scenes, she didn't mind standing out by sporting her distinctive natural blond hairstyle, a beautiful handbag, vibrant & Afrocentric attire, jazzy framed glasses, or Christian T-shirts with a positive message, and donning her exquisite nails.

"Ms. Pat" Robinson gave and received much love in her lifetime. She will be sorely missed. Pat M. Robinson was preceded in death by her beloved parents and brother Joseph Y. Nelson. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Aaron Robinson, son, Revs. Kevin L. (Dana) Nelson of Olathe, KS, sister, Carmen Nelson of KCMO; grandsons, 2ND LT Joshua Nelson (US Army) 46th Engineer Battalion of Fort Polk, LA & Jacob Nelson of Olathe, granddaughter Gabrielle Evans of Olathe; and niece, Kima Nelson of KCMO; three grandnephews, Taj, Taleb, and Talin Walls & her best friend, Margaret Davis and a host of extended family and friends in Greater Kansas City.
