Obituary

Peggy Rene Brumfield, 63, KCMO, passed away on December 10, 2016. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 28, 1952 to the late Theresa Helen and Coleman Johnson. She was preceded in death her beloved daughter, Patrice Johnson and brothers, Carl Johnson and Larry Johnson. Peggy attended St. Louis Public Schools and completed her Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceuticals at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. As a United States Army veteran, she retired after twenty-two years of service as a First Sergeant. She deployed and served a tour in Saudi. She retired from the VA Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri, where she served our veterans for more than twenty-nine years as Chief Training Officer. Being a firm believer in education, she taught ten years in the local community colleges. Peggy, a lover of life, enjoyed service to others, music, traveling, fitness and spending time with family and friends. She was a proud member of New Life In Christ where she was actively involved in her church, and loved her church members and pastors. She was a 'Prayer Warrior.' Peggy left a lasting impression of laughter, compassion, leadership, wit and love encompassed by her Christ centered life. She will be forever remembered by her contagious spirit, joy of life and love for people. An avid animal lover, she loved her two dogs Ajax and Julio. Peggy is survived by siblings, Tina Johnson and son Luke of St. Louis, MO, Gregory (Saritha) Johnson and son Isaiah of El Paso, TX, and Houston (Cathy) Johnson and family Daletrevis, Roger, Philonda, and Mariah of Killeen, TX. She leaves behind a host of family members, a God-daughter Addison, caregiver and friend Amber Smith and son Benjamin; and many other friends who loved her dearly. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 15, 10:30 a.m. at New Life In Christ International Ministries. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
