Obituary

Peggy Sharonlea Vann, 83, passed away on February 14, 2019 at Research Medical Center. She was born on January 7, 1936 to the union of Albert Wright and Daisy May Taylor in Lawrence, Kansas. Her parents, one sister Kyra Ware; one son Nathaniel Maurice Ragland, grandson Jamil DeAnthony Ragland and granddaughter Janice D'Angela Wells all preceded her in death.

Peggy lived in Lawrence, Kansas and was a graduate of Lawrence High School class of 1954. She met the love of her life, Theron Eugene Ragland and to this union five children were born, L'Tanya Ragland, Shellease Ragland, Theron Ragland, Jr., Nathaniel Maurice Ragland and Thei-Ann Ragland. Her husband Theron preceded her in death. She was later united in marriage to William Anthony Vann who also preceded her in death .Peggy dearly loved the Lord and her family with all her heart and soul. Anyone who knew her knows that she was the most giving, complimenting, helpful, warm-hearted, card sending person. Her biggest passion was sending out cards. She loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would go out of her way to teach them and lend an ear to what they had to say. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a God-fearing woman. She made no judgement, that wasn't her style. Peggy worked at Western Electric for many years and from there she worked for General Motors Fairfax Plant for many years, then she went on to retirement, but her love for people drew her back out to take a Teacher's Aide position for the Belmont Montessori School, where education was essential to her. She joined the Second Baptist Church in the late 60's. Later in life she united with the Mount Vernon Missoinary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Emanuel A. Johnson and current Pastor Donald W. Givens where she was an Usher and a faithful member for many years. She spent her Sunday afternoons visiting the sick and shut-in and even participated in their activities until her health failed. She will definitely be remembered by her acts of kindness, devotion to her family, her friends and most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Despite her failing health she fought with so much compassion and a warm nurturing heart until the end. She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, L'Tanya Ragland Smith (Calvin), Thei-Ann Ragland Wyatt (Alfred) both of Kansas City, MO and Shellease Ragland of Dallas, TX; son, Theron E. Ragland, Jr., (special friend Virginia) of Kansas City, MO; stepmother, Anna Wright of Lawrence, KS; stepdaughter, Merlon Ragland and stepson, John Vann of Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law, Yolanda Ragland of Kansas City,MO; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, February 23, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
