Smith Sr.
Nov 22, 1940 — Nov 22, 2016
Porter Smith, Sr., 75, KCMO, passed away on November 20, 2016. He was born November 22, 1960 in Montgomery, Alabama to the union of Milas Smith and Eliza Germany. His parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. Porter was educated in the public schools of Montgomery. Porter also attended Carpentry Trad School in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a carpenter for J.E. Dunn Construction for many years until he experienced complications with his health. Thereafter, he owned and operated a full service gas station. Porter joined Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Frank McClenton in 1992. Later he was ordained as a Deacon. Members and friends respectfully addressed him as 'Deacon Smith'. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for four years and as a member of the male chorus. Deacon Smith was a faithful member who remained proud of his church family. In 1963, Porter met the love of his life, Ms. Betty Bryant and the two were married on March 1, 1964. To this union five children were born. Family knew Porter as 'Pa-Pa'. He enjoyed barbecuing, as he was known for his barbecue sauce, and also fishing, golfing and taking on odd jobs for friends and family. He leaves to celebrate his memory: his wife of fifty-two years, Betty Smith; four sons, Porter smith, Jr. (Latrice), Craig Smith, Dwayne Smith (Lori) and Todd Smith (Willetta); one daughter, Kesha Lee (Antoine); one brother, Madison Smith; five sisters, Dorothy Hightower, Betty Jean Robinson, Lucile McGlothen, Eliza Davis (Louis) and Mary Ashe; one brother-in-law, Charles Davis (Elsie); two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hall (Joe) and Vania Allen (Anthony); twenty grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
