Prenthia Ellen Carter, 84, KCMO, passed away on April 9, 2017 at the home. She was born April 14, 1932 in Wayside, Kansas to the union of Bennie Sr. and Savannah Mosley.The Mosley family later relocated to Independence, Kansas. At the age of 14, Prenthia was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit at Saint John Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas, under the leadership of Rev. Wallace Downing. Prenthia received her education at Independence, Kansas High School. Following school, Prenthia relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she continued her faith in the Lord as an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church (920 Olive St.), under leadership of the late Pastor W.H. White, Sr. She later united with St. James United Methodist Church (5541 Wayne Ave.), under the leadership of Pastor Emmanuel Cleaver II. Prenthia began her employment in the restaurant industry as a cook for Poochie's Cafeteria on the Country Club Plaza. She then decided to pursue a career in Nursing because she wanted to help people and make a difference in the lives of others. Her nursing career started at Little Sisters of The Poor Hospital (53rd & Highland). With a passion and dedication to help people, Prenthia decided to focus on helping children and became a teacher at St. Theresa's Catholic School (E. 58th & Michigan), and later went on to work as a Security Guard for the Nelson Atkins Museum of Fine Arts. Prenthia's passions in life consisted of her first and far most loving the Lord, cooking, and shopping. She was known for her beauty and style of decorating and designing her very own clothing; made by Mrs. Marian Gross. Prenthia was married to Mr. Ellis McGee and later united in marriage Mr. L.B. Carter, who preceded her in death. She also had one son, Charvez Keith Carter, who she is now reunited with in heaven, along with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Sr. and Savannah Mosley, two sisters, Pretty Mar Pouncil and Marcy Lee Pouncil; two brothers, Chester Mosley and Archie Mosley; and a special son-in-law, Thomas 'Dooley' Kelley Sr. Mrs. Prenthia Ellen Carter leaves to cherish her memories: ten daughters, Barbara McMillan (Herman) of Brentwood, CA, Debra Thomas, Rita McGee, Cheryl Hawkins, Faye Brewster (James), Sheila McGee, Darlene Carter, Nankita Perez, Beverly & Erric Byers, and Lashon Carter all of Kansas City, MO; one brother, Rev. Bennie Mosley, Jr. & First Lady Charlene Mosley of Sun City, CA; one sister, Dorothy Mae Pugh (Willie) of Kansas City, MO; 26 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and a host of others relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 22, 12:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church. Private disposition. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
