Obituary

Preston Edgar Johnson, born on June 21, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by the love of his family. Preston was the beloved son of Maxine Ellis Johnson and James Johnson, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a brother to Maurice "Bo" Ellis (Candy) and Kim Ellis, and was predeceased by his brother Harold Lucas. On June 18, 1968, Preston married the love of his life, Birdia Danley, in Chicago. Together, they built a life full of love and cherished memories. He was a father to his daughter Melinda Williams (Kevin, Sr.) and son Marccavies Johnson, and was preceded in death by his son Chauncey Johnson. Preston was also a grandfather to Antonio Johnson, Khristian Cooper Rukiya, Vianca Williams, and Kevin Williams, Jr., and a great-grandfather to Ella Williams. Preston had a zest for life and a heart full of humor. He loved telling jokes and could strike up a conversation with anyone—he truly never met a stranger. He had a deep passion for music and enjoyed spending his time watching Westerns, the History Channel, the Science Channel, and keeping up with current events on the news. Preston's laughter and love of life touched everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
