Obituary

Ms. R. Lee (Island Jamerson) Jones, 89, was born April 13, 1929 is Lisbon, Louisiana to the union of Henry and Mary Anna (Moore) Island. She accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She later moved to Magnolia, Arkansas and united with Galilee Baptist Church.

Ms. Island met and married Acie Lee Jamerson and they had one daughter, Glory. Later she married Albert Jones and had three children, Ronnie, Dennis and Loralei.

Mrs. Jones moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963 with her family. She united with Bethany Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Owens, where she was a faithful usher, Sunday school teacher and worked on the mission board. She later united with Memorial Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor T.B. Baker, where she continued to be a faithful usher and Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Jones remained at Memorial under the leadership of Apostle Larry B. Aiken and continued serving as a dedicated usher and Noon Day Bible Study attendee. She later united with Come Up Higher Ministry under the leadership of Apostle Reginald Stephenson, where she served on the mother's board until her health no longer allowed her to attend.

Mrs. Jones was employed at was employed at Alameda Plaza for a number of years, but the job that she really loved was working with children. She was licensed with the State of Missouri to take care of children in her home. Later, she worked for Hammon's Day Care until retiring. After retirement, she felt there was something else she could do so she applied and was employed with the Linc after school program working with children again.

She loved making sweet potato pies for her family and special friends. She also enjoyed visiting friends and those who were sick and shut in.

Mother departed this life on November 8, 2018 at Centerpoint Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Island and Mary Anna Island Collier; stepfather, Frank Collier; son, Ronnie Jones; brothers, Joe Nathan Island, Robert Island, Prentis Island, Alvin Island, Henry June Island and Curtis Island; sisters, Dotsy Mae Easter and Henry Alice Shelton.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Dennis Jones of KCMO; two daughters, Glory Falls (Elmer) of KCMO and Loralei Jones (Willie) of Independence, MO; three grandchildren, Sheila Jamerson Wilkes (George), Rashawnda Colston and Lamar Jones; six great grandchildren, Donta, Doneisha, Majesty, Meguel, Jada and Kayden; sister-in-law, Mrs. Athlete Island of Milwaukee, WI; two Godsons, Damon Hammons and Dawan Hammons; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved her dearly but God loved her more.

Funeral services Saturday, November 17, 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Church International. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
