Rachel
Wallace
Dec 7, 1955 — Dec 2, 2020
Rachel was born to Mr. Pearlie and Mrs. Ophelia Harris on December 7, 1955 in Batesville, Mississippi. She attended Canton High School in Canton, Mississippi, where she met Jerry McElroy and birthed four children; Lakesha, Terrence, Jovonni and Jerry.
In late 1979 she followed her parents lead and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. After settling in Kansas City, she soon planted her life in Christ and became a faithful member of Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend R. L. Holt. Later in life she became a member of St. Paul Monument of Faith Family Worship Center, under the pastorate of Bishop Clifford A. Jackson.
She worked her way through school, becoming a Certified Nurse Assistant. She made education and self-motivation a priority for her family. In early 1989 she met Kenneth Wayne Wallace, who she affectionately called "Kenny". Their love would span for more than 30 years, culminating in a loving and devoted marriage.
In the Spring of 1999, she left Kansas City, to be with her aging parents in Monroe, Louisiana. After their transition to be with the Lord, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she and Kenneth would join in holy matrimony on November 16, 2002.
When Rachel retired in 2009, she and Kenneth moved back to Kansas City, where they enjoyed spending time with their children and spoiling their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed watching westerns on tv, fishing, cooking, traveling and has always had a love for hats. She could always be seen going to worship wearing her big hats. Rachel was fond of dogs and had two pit bulls named Marco and Lady – her canine companions. She adored spending time with her children and grandchildren and, of course, loved having great debates with Kenny!
On Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Rachel slipped away to be with Lord in her Kansas City home. She is preceded in death by her mother, Ophelia Harris; father, Pearlie Harris; three brothers, John Arthur Harris, Sr. (Linn), Roy James Harris, Henry Chase; and a sister, Minnie Dale Harris.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Kenneth Wallace; four children Lakesha (Andrew), Terrence, Jovonni and Jerry (Alesia); four step-children, Tamika, Terrell, Kenneth and Marquisha; grandchildren, Mikesha, Andrea, Terrence, Diante, Terrie, Tariah, Taryn, Terricka, Sonyai, Elijah, Zandrea, Jerry Jr, and Jerria; great-grandchildren, Caylyn, Taliah and Terre; sisters, Bobbie Jean (Brady), Shirley (Ray), Sarah (Jodie), Edna Mae (Henry), Brenda (Jimmie) Charlene (Will); brothers, Walter (Minnie), Jessie (Georgia), Dwayne Earl (Ruth) and Cortez; three special friends, Gloria, Jennifer and Lashunda; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
