Obituary

Raymond Mott, Jr., 95, was born February 2, 1921 in Kansas City, Missouri, to the union of Raymond Ralph Mott, Sr. and Willie Lee Bean. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife of 63 years, and a brother, Vernon Garrett, Sr. Raymond was educated at R.T. Coles Vocational Junior High School. He served his country as Master Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. Raymond became a member of Friendship Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend I. H. Henderson, Jr. He was a member of the Male Chorus along with his father, Raymond Sr., who was a life-long Friendship member. Raymond was married to Mary Jean Jackson of Glasgow, Missouri, on August 9, 1947. Three children were born to this union: Deidre Collette, Raymond Michael, and Darlene Marie. He began a career as a tailor/owner/operator of two dry cleaning establishments, Society Cleaners at 18th and Vine, and Artcraft Cleaners at 31st and Agnes in Kansas City, Missouri. He later worked at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant as a machine operator and test gunner until his retirement in 1985. Raymond peacefully departed this life at home with his family on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at 6:15 p.m. He leaves to cherish his memory: three children, Deidre Middleton, Raymond Mott, III (Barbara) and Darlene Bigby; two sisters, Gladys Wilson and Frances Wright; eight grandchildren, Kevin Harrell (Mari), Shawn Payne (Tricia), Michael Abbott, Raymond Mott IV, Carlos Mott (Andrea), Marcus Mott, Dwayne Mott (LaShawn), and Alaena Mallory (Jerry); a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 7, 10:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
